Yes I have.  On KDE 3 that I have running on a RedHat system.  I need to 
double check the kate version.

I have found that when inserting text into the middle of some large 
files it often takes a very long time to have the characters render in 
the field.  Its very terribly slow.

I haven't got a clue what to do about it.
