However, when saving a file, this encoding is replaced by the default encoding of the locale, resulting in loss of information. The save-as dialog has an encoding button -- but this is also always reset to the locale encoding. Kate/Kwrite should remember which encoding the file was opened with/saved as -- and use that when saving the file. (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
