This is repeatable with KMail 1.9.5 on KDE 3.5.5.

Configure an IMAP server with TLS auth. Connect to it. Disable TLS support on the IMAP server. Open KMail. (Having 100 folders on the server might help replicate the bug since it looks like there's some timeout for each folder...)

It will say that the authentication method is unsupported and should be changed, but there's no way to cancel the auth modal window or to reconfigure the app while the error modal dialog box is there, so one can't change the authentication method from within kmail if this happens.

The problem is fixable editing ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc by hand, but no end user will do that and it will render their "kmail" useless (there's no time to setup a new connection, there's no time to change configuration).

Tested with latest KDE updates for OpenSuSE 10.2 on 2007-03-18.
