kontact crashes whenever kmail puts a mail in the outbox

I am running Kontact 1.1 and KDE 3.4.0 Level "b" in SUSE 9.3. 

When I attempt to send email via KMail it crashes and displays the following 
message: 

"The application Kontact(kontact) crashed and caused the signal 11 
(SIGSEGV)" 

The same error message is also produced when I close Kontact. 

How do I fix this?  Any light on fixing this is appreciated.
