I believe I'm also experiencing this in kmail 1.10.1 (KDE 4.1.2 (KDE 4.1.2)
"release 48.1", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.0).

My connection if somewhat unstable and often I loose the ability to obtain
messages from one imap folder. I can refresh and read mails from other imap
folders but the job of "Checking folder-foo" never ends and nothing else on
that folder ends. Reselecting the affected folder gets me the system page
"Retrieving Folder Contents" that does not disappear.

Exiting kmail does not solve the problem. I have to kill kio_imap4 processes to
recover functionality.
