Right, thanks, I forgot about that. 

I am compiling k3b right now, they print a warning message at the end of the 
configure run:

| Warning: you chose to install this package in /opt/k3b,
| but KDE was found in /opt/kde.
| For this to work, you will need to tell KDE about the new prefix, by
| ensuring that KDEDIRS contains it, e.g. export KDEDIRS=/opt/k3b:/opt/kde
| Then restart KDE.

I think that's a good way to call people's attention to this potential problem 
and even better than to mention it on the download page.
