Well, I think the Qt designers want force people to use QTextEdit in a 
"proper" way and hide implementation details. Maybe they have reasons for 
doing that but that's makes it impossible to use QTextEdit as an HTML editor 
which supports more than changing fonts and alignment.
And I don't see the point in allowing append() to insert HTML tags and 
insert() not...

I don't know, I don't have it installed either, but I guess they wrote their 
own widget, with much functionality KnowIt will never need. The only 
application the guy on #kde-devel told me about kafka (a WYSIWYG web editor) 
which seems now to be a part of quanta. But I guess that's too heavyweighted 
for knowit purposes, too.
