You are right. When I named the default variables, I named a variable bitmapDefault in 3 files. Since it wasn't static it was exported to 3 times.

The default values for the editors that are not accessible through the config dialog should be static should they not?

That might prevent future name clashes.

Actually, it's a C problem, not a C++ one. "static" for a global variable 
means that the variable is not exported by the compiler outside the 
compilation unit.
