Unable to open files on mounted drives

Hi,

I have issues opening certain files in Kate on Ubuntu even though my 
user should have write and read permissions. The message reads 'The file 
xxx can not be opened, because it is not readable'.  The rights for the 
file look like this:

-rwxrwxrwx 1 oxxx oxxx 3388 Jun 22 14:47 /media/oxxx/ssss/aaaa/aaaa/ssss/log

The drive looks like so in /dev:

brw-rw----  1 root disk      8,  19 Jun 24 08:19 sdb3

and in /media/oxxx/:

drwxrwxrwx 1 oxxx oxxx 126976 Jun 22 17:09 ssss

Any help is appreciated! Also, please CC me for the response :)
