Absolutely no guarantee that this will work, but we have been bundling
kate inside our RKWard download for some time, now. Now, we've been
doing this in order to use the plugins, not the kate application
itself, but the binary is there, and you might just be able to call it
from the command line from inside the bundle.

In theory, our version 0.7.3 should still be usable on Mac OS 10.13:
