Switching to using a shared library libqt-mt.so (libqt-mt.so.3.3.4,  
to be precise) has gotten it to compile, and it appears to be  
working.  I'm puzzled why that would be necessary on Solaris but not  
on Linux, but thanks very much for the tip!
