This has been happening again. After working in Quanta for a while,
editing files, etc. I ran the link checker plugin. After trying to fix
some broken links, Quanta froze, and I had to close it via the close
button. Now it won't start again.

Following your suggestion, I looked in /tmp and found many .tmp files
under /tmp/kde-friendly/quanta:

# cd /tmp
euclid: /tmp # ll -t
total 924
drwx------ 3 friendly staff 300 2009-08-24 17:19 ksocket-friendly
drwx------ 3 friendly staff 80 2009-08-24 17:19 kde-friendly
...

/tmp # ll kde-friendly/
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 friendly staff  34 2009-08-24 09:38 ksycoca ->
/var/tmp/kdecache-friendly/ksycoca
drwxr-xr-x 2 friendly staff 780 2009-08-24 17:19 quanta
euclid: /tmp # ll kde-friendly/quanta/
total 148
-rw-r--r-- 1 friendly staff 145 2005-09-10 04:22 info.css
-rw------- 1 friendly staff 673 2009-08-17 14:28 quanta5kv6tb.tmp

-rw------- 1 friendly staff 931 2009-08-24 17:19 quantaa3HxRa.tmp
  ...
# cd kde-friendly/
euclid: /tmp/kde-friendly # ll

lrwxrwxrwx 1 friendly staff  34 2009-08-24 09:38 ksycoca ->
/var/tmp/kdecache-friendly/ksycoca
drwxr-xr-x 2 friendly staff 780 2009-08-24 17:19 quanta
euclid: /tmp/kde-friendly # rm -rf quanta/

OK, so I removed them all, but I still have the same problem ---

If I try to start Quanta from konsole or xterm, nothing happens -- no
errors reported, just sits there until ^C

OK, so I check whether there are any Quanta processes running (yes) and
kill them:
euclid: /tmp/kde-friendly # ps aux |grep quanta
friendly 18170 0.0 1.6 40852 17592 ? S Aug24 0:00 quanta
friendly 23093 0.0 1.6 40848 17584 ? S 09:20 0:00 quanta
root 23269 0.0 0.0 2052 636 pts/1 R+ 09:39 0:00 grep
--color=auto quanta
euclid: /tmp/kde-friendly # kill 18170
euclid: /tmp/kde-friendly # kill 23093

But still no joy in Mudville. Mighty Quanta still strikes out.
Same, even if I logout of my session and restart.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?
