Re: Quanta Digest, Vol 104, Issue 6

Great, now we have an overview of good alternatives to 
Quanta+

I downloaded a couple of them, played a little and this 
is my conclusion and order of priority:

1. Aptana Studio
I was really impressed by the abilities of their 
editors, code completion and all you want, and how you 
may adjust it to your own needs. Like Quanta+ and even 
better, however not so easy to configure because of all 
options and all inbuilt languages, plugins, add-ons 
etc. And you may upgrade it to Titanium Studio for 
mobile development and so on. 

Yes, I fell in love with it, cannot abstain from. The 
only disadvantage seems to be it demands a good pc, it 
is slow on mine, but may improve also if you install 
all java environment for it -  like Oracle Java Runtime 
Environment (JRE)  and Java Development Kit (JDK). I 
will try and see if Aptana will be quickened.

It seems to be open source, but maybe not free as in 
freedom?

2. Netbeans for php
Will be interesting to try out, maybe similar to 
Aptana? Because of Aptana I got no time to install 
Netbeans, but will do it soon and compare.
- If it match Aptanas abilities I may also end up in 
Netbeans ...

3. KDevelop
I like it also, but as said - no real support for css3, 
html5, php etc. Though it could be developed into a 
renewed Quanta+ if there were developers interested.

4. Bluegriffon
Yes, if you pay for all add-ons (40$ is not so much) it 
may help, especially if you don't want to write so much 
own code. Handy, but mostly for those who like support 
of preview editing. I don't like their editor. It seems 
to be reused code from their earlier Nvu, as I remember 
it some 6-8 years ago.

So for me the winners are Aptana (and most probable 
Netbeans)!
