I tried your suggestion (below) and didn't get anywhere, but I'm not sure what 
I should do after that or whether I used the correct path to Quanta. I 
used /usr/bin which is where I find the executable Quanta file.  I'm not at 
all Ubuntu/Linux savvy.

KDEDIRS=path_to_Quanta (like /opt/kde3 or /usr/kde or whatever)
