Even if you use GNOME, the kde libraries should behave the same way. Please install Konqueror and try to browse your shares and check if you can write to them or not. If not and you see the same (similar) issues, than the problem is not Quanta's, and most probably you can find an answer on a KDE forum/support mailing list. I don't have too much (good) experience with accessing windows (samba) shares, and I always chose the easy way of mounting the needed shares on boot from fstab.
