Using abbreviations

OK - so I defined a new group, picked the empty DTEP valid for all files, defined my abbreviation. Where, in the documentation to find instructions on how to use the abbreviation I so lovingly crafted? When directed to the right place, I expect to find lots of other valuable things as well :)
