Well, you're forgotten backport commit is the one which fixes this (by 
creating the new KURL object instead of using the reference).
Still the
url = url.url().left(i_ref);
line is not completely right. You assign a QString to a KURL. This 
should be done with KURL::fromPathOrURL().
