External process interface for digikam?

I seem to be stumped applying face recognition/matching across many
albums I have.  It seems I cannot select multiple albums and then
invoke these processes?

One idea I've had is to use the `Digikam-DB` python package and
its access to the digikam databases to iterate over the albums
and then... CALL digikam from the command line.

I find doc regarding "DLNA Media-Server," and also this page
API page: https://www.digikam.org/api/.  but is it possible
to fire up digikam as a service that then receives API requests?
