I was not able to make this work. So out of desperation, I have now tried moving alle the *.db files into another folder in order to start "from scratch". When I did this and started DK, DK complained that it could not find the main db file. So I tried moving the main db file back and started again. Now it is "finding new items..." so I am waiting for it to be done scanning and see if it will finally allow me to access my photos... If this does not work, I guess the next step is to try to remove digikamrc file as well as the db files and then start all over. I will report back.
