Hi everybody,

For a while I have been toying with the idea of having a KDE site similar to
the Dot but where instead of news we publish op/ed-type articles. The main
goal would be to try to step back from the day-to-day craziness and reflect on
KDE as a project, on long-term issues, etc. Several people write blog posts on
these matters occasionally and generate good debates, but I thought it would
be nice to have a central site where we could find these types of pieces.
Moreover, such an arrangement, with some people being responsible for it as
editors, would also ensure its continuity and coherence. It would not have the
almost daily posts of the Dot but instead publish an article every one or two
weeks. I am thinking that the editors would gather ideas for interesting
articles, seek people who are willing to write them (these would be one-off
contributions, so people should not be burdened with another long-term
commitment), and they could also do some work to summarize the debates, which
could be useful material for an aKademy presentation or to send ideas to
different teams.

In any case, as at this point I am not sure how much time commitment it would
require from the editor(s), whether anyone would be interested in writing
articles, or if in fact any of this is viable at all, after consulting with
Stu I decided to start this project in a low-key manner as a personal blog. If
things go well, or if they don't but I manage to find a format that is
sustainable, we could think of maybe turning this into an official KDE site.

Before I aggregate the blog to the Planet, however, I would like to have some
feedback from other promo folks, both in general about this project and about
specific ideas for articles/topics to cover. If you would be willing to
contribute, either writing a piece or helping me edit/manage the site please
let me know. If there is enough interest and I manage to get a few
contributions lined up I will then aggregate the blog to the Planet and start
publishing them.

Here is the blog's URL: http://kdeworld.wordpress.com/ You can leave comments
on the Hello World post as well if you prefer posting your feedback and
suggestions there.

Oriol
