Sure, we normally seem to find a consensus on most things... We can also set up 
tables to look at costs for each venue, which might make one more attractive 
:-)

So, some more in depth information:

-VENUE-
I went to visit the department this morning. It's quite a shiny new building 
and there are a couple of decent size rooms we can have at our disposal (one 
was set up as a seminar type room, seating probably around 150 the other more 
as a conference room. Both can be adjusted to how we want them. There are also 
smaller meeting rooms available and kitchen areas/comfy seats for making 
drinks and chilling out etc.

There is also a roof terrace to which we would have access - one of the 
meeting rooms opens out on to that. Depending on the weather, that could be 
nice.

The entire building has good WiFi (apparently its also picked up quite well in 
nearby houses...)

The rooms are provisionally reserved for us on both possible dates. The 
department are keen to sponsor us in addition to providing space - basically 
they are offering us free lunches.

-JOINT EVENT WITH ECS-
They are also keen for some/all of us to be involved in a presentation to 
their existing undergraduate and postgraduate students and staff. They also 
have contacts with many former students working in the area or running their 
own companies and would be able to invite them to also attend. This would 
probably best be done on the Friday (as Justin suggested, we can try and 
recruit some extra help maybe). One of their staff is currently involved in a 
project to open up access to scientific data in the UK and has an interest in 
open standards and software so might also like to speak at such an event.

-ACCOMMODATION AND PLANNING-
If we go with Southampton, I have a few ideas for accommodation, but I will 
really need to talk to them with an idea of numbers, room requirements and 
dates. Therefore please fill in your info as much as possible on the wiki. I've 
added 'what nights?' to the accommodation required column - so if possible 
indicate which nights you'd likely need accommodation - so if you would plan 
to arrive on Thurs night and leave Monday morning mark Thurs-Sun etc.

Our plan is, I guess to try and have three fullish days on Friday-Sunday, but 
of course some people will only be able to make it for the weekend days.
