Hi Ingo,

I do develop PHP, as I wrote in my first letter, and NetBeans for PHP is my
best choice of IDE (you must try 7.0beta, if haven't yet).

As I see your points, my point of view is a bit different. Having ALL
software in-house is not a must-have. None had gave up on windows, just
because Skype is not made by MS, nor OS X, since MS office for Mac is not
made by apple. Its mostly otherwise - people likes Win, because most custom
software can work there, likes Mac's since they are capable with most
popular office formats.

By promoting any family FOSS stuff I see a perfect place to get the best
synergy effect by taking the best of what is available. Especially then
there is not a single corporation (with close to unlimited funding), that
could take care of 100% tools needed by its users. From the other end, its
very unlikely, that even such projects as Apache or Eclipse could launch
wide scale promotion campaign alone. Its just too expensive.

Some might consider not finding clear line where DE responsibility ends and
distributions starts as a problem. But if take DE's as a bridge, joining as
much FOSS products as possible. If someone would try count, how many Linux
end users uses KDE or Gnome - it probably would be more than 95%. Nobody
says, we can't unite marketing teams from DE's and OS’s.

The idea of promoting KDE to web developers is just one of the possible ways
to promote FOSS to wider audiences, but that's another topic.

P.S. Does promo has funding available for promotions/adds/freebies etc? If
so, what was the approximate budget in the previous years risen?
