Ok, so how does it extract text from the image as described in the original 
report? Or is the impression the reporter had of it only being an image 
incorrect?

Btw, that's also something that's surprised me in my own usage - I can have 
what is clearly a scanned page in a PDF (poor quality, various marks around 
the letters) but still copy text rather than just an image. Is it that the 
scanning app will have done OCR and associated text with the file?
