getkde.org

I like.

Translucent mouseovers on the image. Rotating images. Nice.

The only thing I've got about the new site relates to contributors.
I've added Lydia to this message...she and I have talked about
contributors. And this may have to do with the Community Working Group
where she does great work. I also think that kde-promo should be an
important player.

To start, I realize that new content and KDE philosophy are larger
issues than site design. In addition, I know first hand that open
source volunteers are not easy to attract.

Nonetheless...
I would really like to see something at the site that helps get people
involved in KDE. There is a wide disparity between the number of KDE
users and the number of contributors. This is particularly an issue
(for me) in the U.S. where I live. Generally about 25% of US people
volunteer, on average a little less than 1 hour per week. We don't get
anywhere near that level of participation.

Another statistic...where people volunteer in descending order.
Religious
Educational
Social service
Hospital
Other
Civic
Sports/Arts

Presumably technology is part of "Other".

To me, this is an opportunity, not a problem. What can we do to make
KDE volunteering something that people want badly to do?

Part of the answer relates to what you've done with getkde.org. It's
enticing. It's bold. And it represents KDE accurately.

So, practically speaking, I would like to see something just as
enticing and bold in the area of the site "Make your mark - contribute
to the future of KDE". Corresponding enticing, bold work will be
needed on the page where this links.

Beautiful work. Thank you so much.

Carl
