KDE Cascadia

Hello KDE Promo,

KDE Cascadia will be held in conjunction with LinuxFest Northwest in
Bellingham WA, April 28 & 29, 2012. It is a pilot for a regional focus
of North American KDE conferences. This is a different approach from
Camp KDE, which had a nation-wide appeal, but was not well-attended.
LFNW (linuxfestnorthwest.org) is the original FOSSFest in the U.S.,
now in its 13th year. It draws attendees from British Columbia and the
northwestern U.S.--Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana,
Utah. It is well established as a low stress event, grass roots,
community driven. An association with LFNW will keep costs low and
deliver a substantial audience. LFNW attendance is around 1000 people
over two days.

In keeping with the typical LFNW audience, KDE Cascadia will focus on
users and developers. The user-oriented sessions will be integrated
with the general LFNW presentation schedule. It will include
applications that are unique to KDE, current hot topics or that
feature KDE community and innovation. The currently proposed
sessions/categories include:
- Education
- Science
- Games
- Multimedia
- Finance
- Office
- PIM
- DigiKam
- Krita
- ownCloud
- Plasma Active

One of the new Plasma Active Sparks [1] will be one of the World
Famous LinuxFest Northwest Raffle prizes. And a few Sparks will be
available for sale at the Fest.

Three things are needed from the KDE Promo group

1. Input on the best topics for sessions...Krita, ownCloud and Plasma
Active are hot right now. Should anything else be included that will
show off KDE to LFNW attendees?

2. Presenters...if you can attend LFNW, have experience with a KDE
application, and are willing to lead a presentation, please let me
know. Keep in mind that LFNW is informal and low stress. It would be
hard to find a more supportive audience than those at LFNW. This and
#1 need to happen soon as the deadline is ~March 1st.

3. Attend...LFNW in Bellingham is a treat. Free admission to exhibits
and presentations. Affordable gourmet lunch catered by the Bellingham
Technical College Culinary Department. Tutorium. Free party Saturday
evening for LFNW attendees at the Sparks Museum of Electrical
Invention (amre.us) including the lightning bolt from a 10 foot Telsa
Coil, hands-on exhibits, appetizers and all the beer you want,
craft-brewed with Linux Automation technology.

Please participate and show your support for KDE in the U.S. and
elsewhere in North America.
