Call for participation: become part of KDE ON team

Hi,

KDE ON is a new approach of the Corporate Supporting membership, based on 
networking instead of other services.

To know more about the ideas behind the project, please read the following 
posts [1][2][3][4][5][6]

After some thinking, I've wrote a proposal that have been discussed within KDE 
eV. Now it looks like we have something we can start from. KDE ON is something 
quiet new in many ways so we will need to start slow and with a heavy critic 
sense. It is a long term project so there will be room for everybody that want 
to collaborate, no matter how much effort can put on it.

As everything that deals with organizations, business and money, we will need 
some areas of confidentiality, so excuse me for not publishing the whole 
project yet. I will blog about it the following days. If you are interested, 
though, please ping me to send you the basic proposal.

Why can it be interesting for you to participate?

1.- This project can open a door for a new way of participating in a Free 
Software Project. Instead of building relations with developers, users, 
media...we will be building relations with corporations, small companies, 
Universities...in an structured and well defined way, initially.  Even for 
those who have "business profile", this is something quiet new, where we all 
are going to learn a lot. Previous experience in business in desired, but no 
required, not at all.

2.- KDE ON should be an enjoyable experience. It is not about selling, about 
business development, about managing.... it is about people, it is about 
building relations with people with different interests than we usually have. 
So we need open minded KDE contributors that want to try new areas of 
collaboration with others. 

3.- Free Software have grown. We are becoming mainstream and our work is 
becoming more and more relevant for companies, public administrations, for 
colleges.... We need to adapt ourselves to this new environment. But instead 
of adopting their ways, we should try to build our own processes, our way of 
interacting with them, keeping our essence, our spirit and principles. Nobody 
knows yet how to do that. KDE ON can become a nice hack. And we like hacking, 
right?

I want to help but......

a.- I don't have much time left.

Nobody does, right? Involvement in KDE is a matter of passion more than time. 
It is about learning as much as being productive, it is about having fun as 
much as doing a good job. Try first and then adapt your implication to your 
availability.

b.- I am not a business person.

And I'm not a developer and here I am, doing my part. KDE ON will have 
something for you. And if don't, create it. 

c.- I don't have very good communication skills

Building relations is about communicating well, it's true, but is even more 
about building trust and being supportive. KDE ON cannot be successful if 
there is only room for those who are good speakers/writers. Business people 
usually are not good speakers either. They just know well what they usually 
talk about (their business, their products, etc.). Move them away from their 
comfortable area and you will be surprised.

So ping me if you are interested in helping me to make KDE ON possible. Feel 
free to ask questions through this mailing list. It is not the perfect 
channel, I know, but there is none so far. ;-)
