I would like to state, that a commitment for an open tablet should *not*
be non-commercial, meaning: There should be and there is a perspective
for earning money with such a system [While as an outsider I am always
wondering how programmer's work is paid, e.g. the fantastic
KDE-environment...]

Maybe it sounds like a political campaign 'There are only a few days
left to save the world...', but: Fact is, this tablet-project in Lower
Saxony is started, supported with political power from the
administration, and last but not least a workshop 'Free Knowledge - Free
Software' at ZIM/Hildesheim with the FSFE activated a certain
consciousness for alternatives beside tablet-devices with iOS or
Android. And - short version - these devices coming from consumer-market
do not fulfill their promises in school until now.
The thing to do is presenting an alternative NOW, I think.

I forgot the winking smiley, but of course I dont expect that! The
question is: How can we present such a tablet? What about Aaron Seigo?
What about BasysKom? What is a 'significant investment'?
Apple, Samsung, Microsoft and other global players go in and out at the
old-fashioned ZIM/Hildesheim and use their strong marketing to place
their products.
An event like this would be visited by official media-consultants who
consults schools what to buy and what to use. What about that in
commercial view?

So an ViewSonic Viewpad 10 [1] is in this case the best choice? All
other devices seem to be netbooks/integrated touchscreens, right? Is
there a chance to get one or more machines- bought maybe from ZIM/NLQ -
equipped with KDE-Plasma-Active by professionals, means: You ?

Mail (Kontact Touch) under PlasmaActive worked wonderful, but I've never
seen Calligra working. A Mail-client has a low priority for school. For
an educational tablet a browser, a multimedia-player and an office-suite
is needed.

Updated date (The question of 'When?'):
"27./28.06.12 (wohl in Verden)
04./05.07.12 vielleicht in Hildesheim"

At KDE-booth at Cebit 2012 somebody told better not to present an
unfinished open tablet. Since PlasmaActiceTwo quite a time past. So what
is the state of this project?

What about a K-Ubuntu equipped system? Should I plan such an event anyway?
