I don't want to have to explain to users that no, Gwenview >>> 4.10 does not look like this at all. Maybe more effective to explain to anyone who asks (would be interesting to know more about anyone who actually does that) that it is eye-catching and attractive, done by an artist using the latest Qt Quick technology to make something pretty. Qt Quick (and QML) are major features of what 4.10 is all about. Anyone wondering about Gwenview can visit http://kde.org/announcements/4.10/applications.php for some 4.10 news about it. That screenshot shows Gwenview on the titlebar and represents Gwenview as it really is. >>> >>> The screenshot doesn't have to feature Gwenview, it just needs to look >>> like what we actually ship. >>> >>> Aurélien >>> >> >> It not an mock up its an qml app :) you know that :D > > > Ask for it to be included in KDE SC, then. My sense was that he was proposing things to respond to the market, thinking about marketing. This is not a dirty marketing trick. It functions well to show readers something interesting and to call attention to the rest of the announcement, including the general announcement and one for each of the parts of the Software Compilation. The fundamental marketing question is "What are we trying to accomplish with this series of announcements?" In my view, the answer is bigger than showcasing only those applications that are available now. There is nothing in that screenshot simulation that indicates that it is a specific KDE application. Dirty marketing tricks are intended to cheat. Few people would think that they could get exactly and specifically what that image promises. Anyone who feels cheated after reading the general announcement and the ones for each part of the Software Compilation is loony tunes, nuts, someone who is angry looking for a reason. The announcements are loaded with specific information, including links to maintainer blogsites where appropriate (such as yours in the Gwenview section). From a marketing and announcement point of view, that image really works. In fact, the more I see it, the better I like it. Now that I think more about the backstory, it's even more inspiring. "A guy who makes pretty pictures can program something like that?" "Yeah. That's where KDE is going, and you too can go along." These announcements do a remarkable job of presenting the latest from KDE. Many people pulled from many resources to gather information. Quite a bit of thought was given to how best to formulate and present the goodies. The process and coordination for this announcement was exceptional, the best yet. And all that takes place on top of amazing work that developers, testers do to provide exceptional software. This announcement and all that it represents provide exceptional value to end-users. There's nothing wrong here. Carl _______________________________________________ This message is from the kde-promo mailing list.
