I like it.

I deal with users who are mostly oblivious to this kind of thing...to them, 
"KDE" is enough.

Techies (such as LUG members) are not particularly interested in the internal 
KDE conversations. Mostly these are people who will be calling the new release 
"Plasma 5" anyway. "2014.6" won't make sense to them and won't be used.

It won't make much difference to the outside world that we have been using 
various labels for the "new stuff". Our discussions have been speculative to 
some degree. If something other than a simple "Plasma 5" is used, then 
journalists and SlashSnark will come with questions if not insults. 

From a promo point of view, Plasma 5 works better than the alternatives.
