Hello Harold,

I agree with Lydia about your plan for a user survey. Please don't do this.

Your enthusiasm is greatly appreciated. Still, I suggest that you take
it easy for a while ... build some credibility with the KDE Community
and with KDE Promo ... look at dot.kde.org and planetKDE for some
history of KDE promotion and for a deeper understanding of what KDE is
all about.

It comes off as flighty when you jump from one thing to another to
another to another ... from video cataloging to setting up an unnecesary
calendar on the community wiki, to analyzing what's wrong with the Krita
fundraising campaign, to project management for KDE Promo, etc. All
within less than 3 weeks since you joined the KDE Promo mailing list.

It would help to get a sense of where you're coming from and what you
want to accomplish. Please tell us more about your background and
experience with marketing and promotion. What is your experience with
free and open technology and with KDE? What is your education? What kind
of work have you done...are you doing? What results have you produced?

One of the problems with doing a survey as you've suggested is that it
sets up expectations that you by yourself have no way of fulfilling.
More importantly, as Lydia points out, the results are likely to set
back initiatives that have been years in the making.

The KDE Community is a collaborative, cooperative project. Lone Rangers
don't do so well in this sort of environment. You seem to be as
enthusiastic about KDE as many of us are. However, with your scattered
approach, you risk not being taken seriously.

Carl
