Re: Akademy registration announcement is coming

Aleix is right. This is way too big of an overreaction to something that
was initially a small misunderstanding.
Akademy is fast approaching, and it's sad that we're wasting time on this
instead of working on something productive.

I understand that it's stressful to organize an event as big as Akademy. I
also understand that it feels weird when two people you don't know come in
and get involved with your project. But that's not an excuse to take it out
on Paul. He didn't write his comments to personally spite anyone - he was
just trying to make sure we're all on the same page.

The fact is that neither Paul nor I knew that the conference schedule was
completed. No one told us, and I haven't even seen the link to it prior to
this conversation.
We thought the registration was also still in progress, and this is
precisely why Paul asked about the dates - to make sure we don't publish
anything without the Akademy team's permission.

As for the Dot story announcement which you "normally" do, this issue is
based on 2 assumptions:
1) that we knew you were expecting a Dot story;
2) that we'll keep doing everything the way it has always been done.

As for 1), this was also a misunderstanding: we didn't know the meaning of
"announcement" was "a Dot story with highlights" for you.
This could have been simply solved if anyone just went to this task
<https://phabricator.kde.org/T5740> and wrote something like "hey guys, the
schedule and registration are now complete, we're waiting for your Dot
story". Then we could see how that fits into our plans and we would know
what you expect from us.

For 2), one of our main goals is to improve the state of KDE promo. If we
keep doing everything the same way it's always been done, how is anything
going to improve? Sometimes we will suggest to do things differently, or we
will test an approach that is different from what you're used to.
Of course, we will always discuss these things together, but if every
attempt at changing things gets shut down like this, that's not going to
benefit anyone.

At this point I'm not sure how to proceed, and I'm honestly a bit afraid of
suggesting anything if my comments are going to be received with hostility.
We made a promo plan for Akademy that we intended to share with the rest of
the Akademy team, but it doesn't make much sense for me to do this alone,
without Paul being able to see and participate in the discussion.

If the Akademy team doesn't want Paul and me to meddle with their promo
activities, that is fine.
In that case, please be transparent about your reasons, so that we can
learn something from them for the future.

If we are still going to work together - which I hope is the case - please
make sure to inform us about the progress of the Akademy project, or at
least have some patience when we ask about the details. From our side, we
will make sure to explain our decisions and share our plans well in
advance. We should all strive to communicate clearly, openly, and politely.
