Thanks for asking. 

Generally: yes, regaining plasma6-plasma (as a dependency) will be nice, 
however this is (I think) a separate issue – a longer-term goal that 
need not be priorised for as long as releng builds of dvd1.iso 
include traditional/legacy archives alongside .pkg files for base.

I did not realise until now, kde requires plasma6-plasma-desktop, so what I
originally reported was a misunderstanding. (I wrongly assumed that installing
kde no longer installed the desktop environment.)

Now I'm looking at these two: 

plasma6-plasma            KDE Plasma 6 Desktop (meta port)
plasma6-plasma-desktop    KDE Plasma Desktop

So, _without_ using the word "meta", what's the briefest possible plain english
distinction between the two?
