This can get tricky if the windows are hard to distinguish. X11 provides a number of properties other than the window title; no idea about Wayland!

Plus: last *opened* or last *closed* on? With a session manager storing the current DE state it's relatively easy to record the required details when logging off. It's probably a completely different matter if applications have to do this themselves.
