hmm don't know much about slack, but the problem can be also in
how you installed your opengl developer packages. 
Yes as you said mesa is the opengl library, but if you have a NVidia
card and you use proprietary dirvers you should also configure
the path in which looking for  libGL.la. Usually in ld.so.conf
or if your distro supports it, /etc/ld.so.conf.d/ 
put a file there (if you don't have it yet) with
/usr/lib/nvidia inside and re run ldconfig.
