different video behaviour? / cursor color

Just upgraded from 1.3.1 to 1.4.1. The autoplay on the first video found pretty much annoys me. Can I disable this somehow? Even better was if I could define my own player command and only start the external player when pressing return or a defined hotkey. Next thing: I had a blaring red thick cursor in 1.3.1, now I have this thin blue one. Can't find the config dialog for that anymore - gone?
