 What's so wrong about the standard thumbnails+preview mode that it has to be 
abandoned? Especially given that your second and third mode are just special 
cases of it. I find both thumbnails and preview needed, the first one for 
finding images I possibly want to view and the latter for confirming that 
indeed I do.
