It's not directly what you are searching but perhaps it could help you:
There are some keyboard shortcuts which helps a little bit to navigate through 
directories on same "level".

So if your are in subdirectory #25 press "Alt+Space" two times and you are in 
subdirectory #27. For the reverse way use "Alt+Backspace".
