Unfortunately, I have no time to work on this for now :-(. Note however that the situation is a bit nicer in Gwenview 2.0 if you want to check whether there is some subtle alpha somewhere because when you scroll the image, the alpha checkboard does not scroll, making it easier to see if an area is fully opaque or not.
