If I am not mistaken, Return is not bound to any action in Gwenview 1.4. It is just used by the thumbnail view to enter a folder, but this is not configurable. Going fullscreen is supposed to use the standard KDE shortcut: Ctrl+Alt+F. I guess in your case Return is bound to fullscreen, just change this and you should be fine.
