Can videos be turned off when browsing?

I'm using v1.4.2 under Debian (KDE 3.5.10).  When browsing gwenview opens 
a file in every directory I visit.  This usually helpful behavior becomes 
annoying now that its supports video.  Any way to turn this off for video 
only?  How about turning it off all together?
