One thing you definitly need with the current version of K3b and 
Slackware is growisofs 7.x. I'm surprosed K3b didn't grump about it.
As soon as I launcked the current version it complained about
the grwoisofs version.

I'd get the dvd+rw tools 7.0 and that should fix things.

Also, does the burn complete O.K. and then die just at verify?
If so, does a normal CD write and verify?
One problem I had early with verifying is making sure the
CD mount point can be mounted by a user. Presuming you're
not running K3b as root. At verify time K3b didn't have enough
permissions to mount the copy to verify it.

Have you tried running K3b as root to see if it works?
You can open an xterm, do an xhost +, su to root, and run k3b.
If it works as root, you have permissions issues somewhare.

lastly, on the permissions route - the dvd drive in /dev will belong to 
the group cdrom. Edit the /etc/group file and add your user id to this 
group.
