I gave up on this. FYI, it's not k3b itself since it is rather a frontend to 
the command line tools beneath. I've been experiencing this since.. dunno, 
ages and haven't found a solution yet.
Even Verbatix 16x blanks which are officially supported by my writer at that 
speed are burnt at around 4x.
