FLAC is lossless so you can do that.
You could make an iso so you don't need to rip it each time.
You can mount isos on your file system. :-)

Yes, clearly I could do that in the future. I'm mostly curious what
goes into the CD structure to make k3b consider a CD looks like retail
product and then it goes to get cddb data.

You want to know how CDDB is able to recognize a specific cd?
I *THINK* it just looks at the number and length of tracks.
