Hi homoludens,

I am not an OpenSuse user, I use Ubuntu, but I did a quick search on
ubuntuforums.org to see if there are any distro-independent type of fixes
for your problem. I didn't find any in particular that address your
specific example, but some of the posts do have some info you might find
useful.

1. In your log, there are some useful snippets:
/usr/bin/X11/wodim: Operation not permitted. Warning:
Cannot raise RLIMIT_MEMLOCK limits.scsidev: '/dev/sr0'
Not sure what ^that^ one means, but looks important.
Sense Key: 0x4 Hardware Error, deferred error, Segment
0
Sense Code: 0x03 Qual 0x01 (no write current) Fru 0x0

[snip]

Sense Key: 0x5 Illegal Request, Segment 0
Sense Code: 0x30 Qual 0x05 (cannot write medium -
incompatible format) Fru 0x0
I think, looking at other people's posts on ubuntuforums.org, that these
sense codes might be useful to help determine the actual problem. Of
particular note is "cannot write medium" ... it looks like you are trying
to burn on a CD-RW (as you said in your opening)? If this is the case,
have you tried a regular CD-R? Note that it says "Incomapible format" ...
this makes me think it has something to do with the disc itself.

2. It could be that there is some kind of branding issue between your
burner and your media. I have seen that before in Windows. In that case,
you might want to upgrade your burner's firmware so that it supports more
media types (among other fixes).

3. Also, try choosing a very slow rate, say 4x or something. If your
drive doesn't support the "high" speeds, then K3B will probably barf an
error like this (this is an educated guess, I leave it to the devs to
answer that for sure).

In closing: I appologize if I am breaking mailing-list conventions by
replying in this manner. I'm not a seasoned mailing-list user, but I like
to help where I can.

Sincerely,

Mike
