enable sound in k3b

Hi

I've been trying to enable the sound alerts in k3b and can't seem to do 
it.  I check the boxes only to find that as soon as I move to the next 
the previous one ceases to be highlighted.  I even logged in as root and 
started k3b through a terminal, but that didn't help.
