Time to get involved again

OK, I got my system upgraded to a version of KDE where I think I can be 
useful again.  I've spent several days downloading (over dialup) and 
compiling.  I am having some trouble getting any of the compiled koffice 
programs to run.  I get the following errors when running kplato:

It looks like dcopserver is already running. If you are sure
that it is not already running, remove /home/jim/.DCOPserver_yoda__0
and start dcopserver again.

Any idea of what I might have done wrong?
