I like the idea too. I simply never notice that padlock at the bottom
of the screen -- even checking if the URL begins with http or https is
more intuitive. :-) But I do glance at the rotating K every now and
then to see if a page has finished loading, or if the browser is
expecting more data. Putting the padlock there would be a great
improvement -- as it is, the usefulness is very close to zero. A big
rotating padlock placed where people tend to look anyway is better
than a tiny still one in a corner of the screen where no information
is usually to be found.
