anti-aliasing

Many web sites appear on my Konqueror without anti-aliasing.
I have done the following:
Configure Desktop > LookNFeel > Fonts
selected "use anti-aliasing for fonts"
and "use sub-pixel hinting" (I have a 1600 x 1200 flat screen and I am running
1600 x 1200 resolution which gives me native pixel for pixel rendering)
I have also tried turning hinting off, but it seemed to make no difference.
Configure Desktop > WebBrowsing > Fonts
I have tried changing the fonts, but I do believe that the default settings
give me true type fonts. (Do they?)
I increased the standard size, which made things easier to read, but did not
liberate me from the aliased renderings.
Mozilla gives me much better rendering. However, I do not want to go out of my
KDE desktop. Any one have any good ideas?
