no help files

I downloaded and am using kde 3.1 but did I miss something?  I click on 
the help life preserver to read some of the information but it can't 
find the files. The first items that it does find are the unix 
commands.  I have reinstalled it from the terminal but still no help 
files.  I am using it on OS 10.2.4.
