Gearing up for fall with Deep Dive AI webinar series

As summer draws to a close here in San Francisco, I’m struck by the blur
of projects and accomplishments that are happening in our community. OSI is
serving as the catalyst in driving important conversations that impact the
core of what open source is all about, especially in the areas of
artificial intelligence and licensing.

First, the Deep Dive: Defining Open Source AI [3] event is gearing up and
gaining momentum with two community reviews of the Definition of Open
Source AI working document at FOSSY [4] and Linux Foundation Open Source
Congress. As part of the Deep Dive event, a webinar series will start on
September 26 [5], featuring 27 experts discussing the most challenging
issues in the use and development of AI systems. It’s sure to be a
thought-provoking couple of weeks, all culminating with a panel discussion
at All Things Open in Raleigh. Techstrong.ai is our media sponsor for the
event, and I joined Mike Vizard for a video interview [6]. 

Next up, the Open Source community can now find OSI-approved licenses in
the recently revamped OSI Approved Licenses database [7]. This is a core
mission of OSI, and we’re happy to complete this update. The OSI has
taken a visible stance on the importance of well-articulated licensing
standards, speaking out in publications like The Register [8] and
Techstrong.ai [6].

With fall just around the corner in the northern hemisphere, we’ll
welcome the cooler temperatures, but the work of the OSI is just getting
warmed up. Perhaps that’s not the best pun given our warming planet, but
it perfectly highlights the pace and importance of the work underway in the
OSI community. Stay tuned: more announcement will come out next week from
Bilbao, Spain!
